Grading Policy

Students receive report cards 4 times a year that have percentage grades earned for each subject during that marking period.  The 4th report card also has a final-average percentage grade.  The percentage grade for each of the marking periods counts as one-fourth (1/4) of that subjects final-average grade.  (Exception is a course that lasts only 1 semester, which receives 2 report card percentage grades and a final average percentage grade).  The final grade determines if a student passes or fails a class and that is based on the grade divisions shown below.

Math final grade                     Science Final Grade                Art Final Grade

      40+70+75+80=265                      55+55+81+81= 272                         75+57= 132

     265 divided by 4 = 66                  272 divided by 4 = 68                 132 divided by 4 = 66

IPR (Interim Progress Reports) for deficient grades (D or E) are to parents at the mid-point of each marking period.  What do these examples tell me?????  A failing grade under 50% for just one marking period makes it difficult to achieve a passing final grade.  However, if I can get my very low IPR grade above a 50% by the end of the marking period I will have a much better chance of being able to get a passing grade for the year.

What if I am absent?  Upon returning to school it is the STUDENT’S responsibility to contact his or her teachers to find out about any work that was missed.  A student has 1 (ONE) day for each day of absence to complete the makeup work obligations.  If the work is not completed and no arrangements have been made with the teacher for an exception, then the student will receive a failing grade for any makeup work not turned in on time.  If you have been absent for 3 or more days then assignments may be obtained from teachers for you to work on at home.  A parent or guardian should contact the Guidance Office either the day before or no later than 8AM on the day someone will pick up the work in the Guidance Office.
